While I was pregnant with my first daughter, people would always tell us that we could forget about going on vacation until our family was complete, grown and in college. I think because everyone kept telling us that, it made us even more determined to travel with our kids from the very beginning. Our daughter, now four, has traveled all over the United States, Mexico and the Caribbean, and has seen more in her four years than a lot of adults see in a lifetime.
Ben finally proposed! After seven years of dating, the time had finally come to start planning our wedding….
We’re the type of couple who are always looking for an adventure. We love to explore, be active and see the world! As a matter of fact, Ben’s proposal took place on a 40-foot high cliff, overlooking the waves of the Caribbean, off the coast of Puerto Rico. He cut his knee on the rocky terrain and I got a beautiful diamond!
It was suppose to be the Taj Mahal.
I mean, if there is a full moon three days after your 50th birthday and the government of India now allows tourists to visit the Taj Mahal when there is full moon (they didn’t before), doesn’t it make total sense to spend the biggest and best birthday of your life there? Well, I thought it did. But, unfortunately, my husband didn’t. He was already going to be out of the office for one week in January for work so taking another two weeks off to go to India just didn’t make sense. And so, instead, we chose to go to Paris to celebrate my 50th — it’s where we spent our honeymoon, my favorite restaurant in the whole wide world is there, and if it was cold, we could hang in the Louvre, the Musee d’Orsay, or maybe Willie’s Wine Bar.
It happens every year around this time. It is cold – so cold. I am extremely busy at work. I am on my third winter cold, and I simply need a change in pace. The only remedy in sight is a vacation to somewhere warm. Similar to the past few years, I have a vacation in Mexico on my mind. My husband and I like that it is not a long plane trip, we get the ocean, some relaxation, and let’s be honest — we love all-inclusive resorts. You really can’t beat sitting by the beach or pool, having a cocktail (at any time!), eating all you want (at any time!), and not even leaving the resort if you don’t want to.
Funny how life goes along and suddenly you wake up and realize that along with WorldVacations celebrating its 20th anniversary, I too am having my 20-year anniversary here at work. Looking back, I never thought I’d be here that long, but I’m still lovin’ it, and I’ve certainly got a lot of memories.
Every year, my college friends and I reunite in the only city that let’s you feel like a carefree college student again – Las Vegas. I look forward to this trip more than any other, not only because I forget how old I am, but also because this city of excitement never allows for a dull moment. (I guess it always helps to have fun friends too).

While in England I had the pleasure of being treated to a leisurely, decadent, three-and-a-half-hour lunch in the charming village of Bray, at The Fat Duck — one of three 3-Michelin-star restaurants to be found in England. (The other two are The Waterside Inn and Gordon Ramsay’s eponymous venture.)
My senses are still awhirl. Founder Heston Blumenthal employs psychologists to contribute to his brilliant menus, which are experimental and tasty above all. Since the menu was largely in French, I will do my best to describe the following culinary adventure in English terms.
You need a vacation. It’s no surprise to most of us that Americans work more than 40 hours a week. Time for a break!
You deserve it. Americans have less vacation time than most other civilized countries. Consider France, Australia, and Austria—with no less than 5 weeks paid vacation mandated by the government! The famous traveler Arthur Frommer calls our meager 2 weeks the “scandal of American vacation time.”
There’s no better way to try something new, whether it’s food, recreation or culture. Think about it—in another state or country, you may not find a bagel shop down the street for lunch. You might even learn something new about another religion, and find a new respect for those who practice it.
When you work in the travel industry, you suddenly take on a dual career of being your family’s travel agent. So, when it came time for my parent’s 25th wedding anniversary, guess who was in charge of the trip?
Believe it or not, I was honored and excited to help in the planning process. After all – my mom and dad did survive 25 years of marriage, seven homes, three dogs, a cat, me and most impressive of all – my brother! They deserved an unforgettable getaway to celebrate this milestone.
