Family Vacations - Prepare Ahead Travel Tips

June 26th, 2008 by Kate - NWA WorldVacations

Family Vacations Travel Tips
Whether you are taking a family vacation on a warm, sunny beach or traveling to Washington, D.C. for a first-hand lesson in American history, you will have more fun and relax easier if you plan ahead using these travel tips:

Book early - When you book early, you can take advantage of early booking discounts, special hotel offers - not to mention the dates you need to fit into your children’s school schedule.

Choose a family friendly destination - You may not want a destination that features discos and nightclubs if your children go to bed at 8 pm. Instead you will want plenty of entertaining daytime activities or historical/cultural learning opportunities.

Vacation Time-Saving Travel Tips

June 20th, 2008 by Susan - NWA WorldVacations

Vacation Travel TipsTravel experts are predicting that people will be looking to travel more efficiently with their time and money. With a little planning, these travel tips will help you avoid the lines and crowds…year round.

Go when others don’t go - For a potentially less-crowded airplane ride, consider taking a flight that departs on Monday or Tuesday instead of Saturday or Sunday.

Shift your day - Get up early and eat at the buffet or a restaurant before the rush. You will then be able to eat earlier for lunch and dinner, too.  Or, you could shift the other direction and get up later, especially if your travel destination is more focused on evening activities. While everyone else is waiting in line for a table, you will be out exploring.

Walt Disney World Travel Tips

Walt Disney World

Here are my top 10 first time Disney to-dos with a 4 year-old, along with some survival tips for a Disney World vacation. These are the things that delighted my 4 year-old on her first visit to Walt Disney World in December of 2007. We tried a lot more than what is listed here - these were the biggest hits which made Disney World a great family vacation destination.

1. Cinderella’s Royal Table
A character lunch (Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, Jasmine, Mary Poppins, etc.) at Cinderella’s Castle within the Magic Kingdom. We reserved a year in advance. Quite a big deal to meet these legends in person.

8 tips not to miss for Mexico

Mexico Spring BreakHeading to Mexico?

If so, you are not alone. Mexico is the top spring break destination this year, which is no surprise due to the beautiful beaches, awesome resorts, and fun activities.

We’ve compiled a few travel tips to help you prepare for your trip:

  1. Bring $1 bills for tipping maids, bellman, and bartenders as getting change in U.S. dollars for larger bills may be difficult. The tips are included at most all-inclusive resorts but you tend to get outstanding service for the duration of your vacation when you give the wait staff and bartenders extra tips early on and throughout your stay.

Eight reasons to travel now

February 2nd, 2008 by Susan - NWA WorldVacations

  1. You need a vacation. It’s no surprise to most of us that Americans work more than 40 hours a week.  Time for a break!
  2. You deserve it. Americans have less vacation time than most other civilized countries.  Consider France, Australia, and Austria—with no less than 5 weeks paid vacation mandated by the government!  The famous traveler Arthur Frommer calls our meager 2 weeks the “scandal of American vacation time.”
  3. There’s no better way to try something new, whether it’s food, recreation or culture.  Think about it—in another state or country, you may not find a bagel shop down the street for lunch.  You might even learn something new about another religion, and find a new respect for those who practice it.

7 things to do before you leave on vacation

January 18th, 2008 by Susan - NWA WorldVacations

When you’re on vacation, you don’t want to worry about “did I do this, did I turn that off?” Here’s a checklist to help you out.

  1. Make your house look lived in.
    • Stop the mail and newspapers, or have a friend or neighbor pick them up.
    • Set lights on a timer.
    • Turn on a clock radio.
    • Make arrangements for someone to mow the grass in summer, or make tire tracks in the driveway and shovel the walks in winter.
  2. Notify a friend or neighbor that you’ll be away, and leave a vacation itinerary with them.  They can also check your house periodically to ensure everything is ok.

Five things to do before you book a vacation

January 2nd, 2008 by Libby - NWA WorldVacations

Cancun relaxationThe middle of January is peak time for planning and booking a winter get-away or spring break vacation.  Travel agents are busy, airlines run promotions, and call centers are flooded with folks looking for a vacation to break up the winter doldrums.  But are you prepared with the proper information before you pick up the phone?

To make your vacation planning experience a smooth one, consider some of these tips:

1. Have a budget in mind
It’s so much easier to make decisions when you absolutely know what you’re able to spend.  And, if you don’t have a specific destination in mind but you just want to go somewhere sunny, a travel agent can make a better recommendation when she knows something about your budget.
