Hawaii Happenings

July 21st, 2008 by Sean - NWA WorldVacations

Beach SceneHawaii is the perfect place to just sit back on the beach and relax, but it is also a great place to immerse yourself in the local culture. Even though Hawaii is part of the United States, it has its own very unique culture that is very different than on the mainland. There are special events, festivals and cultural activities going on every day on all of the islands, so you will have plenty do while you are enjoying your Hawaii vacation.

These are just a few events you’ll want to go to in the next couple of months. If you are not traveling in one of these months, stay tuned because we will be talking about things to do in October through December in future posts.

AUGUST

  • Wild Dolphin Amateur Sand Sculpture Contest on Maui – Get your creative juices flowing and come to this event. This is on Keawakapu Beach and awards will be given for “Best Overall Family”, “Best Individual”, “Most Realistic Dolphin” and “Funniest Looking Dolphin”. This is a great opportunity for you to spend time with your family, or whoever you come with. Sign up by 9am or, if you just want to watch, come between 9:30am and Noon. This is a free event to watch or participate in and you can get some great information on dolphin watching and tours. The fun starts at 9:30am on August 16, 2008.
  • Honolulu Family Festival at Magic Island on Oahu – As the name indicates, this is a night for the whole family. Admission is free and you can see trapeze artists, pig races, a circus and much more. There are also food and rides available for purchase. Your kids will love it! Plan your family vacation to Oahu. The festival runs Aug. 7 – Aug 10th and Aug. 15 –
    Aug 17, 2008.

SEPTEMBER

  • Aloha Festival on Oahu – This is the premier festival to experience Hawaiian culture. You’lll see a wonderful display of island dance, music and traditions. Who knows, by the end of it you could even be doing the Hula chant and dance. This festival takes place Sept. 12 – 13, 2008. Don’t miss the opening ceremonies on Sept. 12!
  • Maui Chefs Present…the Olympics on Maui – Elegant dinner, cocktails, local flavor and live music, all under the stars at the Ritz Carlton…can it get any better than that? Yes, these are the best chefs that Maui has to offer and they are competing to win the title of the best. And spectators get to try everything they make! Price has yet to be determined but this is a must. The event is on Sept. 5, 2008 from 6pm until 10pm. As the locals say luana walea! (enjoy)

Hawaii presents you with endless possibilities to make your Hawaii vacations memorable, but try to go to one of these local events to get the full Hawaii experience. If you want to know more about these events, or any of the other events going on when you are traveling to Hawaii, visit the Hawaii Visitors & Convention Bureau.

If you have been to any of these activities or other events in Hawaii please tell us your experience so that we can share them with other travelers.

A hui hou! (ah who-ee hoe - until we meet again)
