My family and I went on a holiday to remember …
To start, it was the first time my husband and our son had been on an airplane, so right from the beginning it was to be a very memorable vacation. They both thought the flight to our destination was quite a new thing. We flew for 7 hours straight. We went to the Dominican Republic, to Puerto Plata and stayed at an all-inclusive resort and it was awesome.
The resort had a swimming ladder throughout. It was called the lazy river. It went all through the resort and you could float on a tube, or lounge chair right through it. The river went in a complete circle. Plus, they had swim up bars which there was no cost for anything (because it was all-inclusive).
The restaurants on the resort property were all choices of foods, including Canadian, American, and all types of food … a variety of all … and very tasty.
The resort also had a kid’s club which they had different things for kids to do throughout the days. They even had a sitter club, if you wanted to have some time on your own (as a couple).
The beaches were beautiful, with white sand, blue/green water, just like you see on TV. When you walked in the ocean there, it was so warm. My son loved the way the people were there. They treated us very good, and were also very friendly.
We went on a couple of tours, one included horseback riding on the beach, which was great. And then we got to see a lot of the country on one of their buses. It was beautiful and colorful. We visited 2 of the small towns there, Sosua, and Caberete’, where we learned a lot about their culture, and how different the two towns were.
Most of the transportation for the residents was motorcycles and what a way for a family to travel! Imagine having 5 people on 1 motorbike - quite a sight to see and scary at times too.
Most of the housing there is huts with straw/grassy roofs, no glass windows, just open, with many different bugs and animals. Our son got to hold an iguana. You could see lizards every so often running across the path in front of you - harmless ones.
We also took a side tour to an Aquarium, where I got to swim with the dolphins, and my husband and son got to have a shark encounter, in which they got to hold and touch a real shark, and also had an encounter with stingrays which they got to feed them and walk in the water with them too.
It was definitely a most memorable vacation, quite a learning experience actually, and one which will be special to remember. Would definitely do it again some day if the opportunity came.
