Key West Proposal

A travel story by - Rachel S.

I had never been to Key West, Florida, so my first trip there was sure to be memorable. My boyfriend and I rode the Key West Express from Fort Myers, Florida, which was an enjoyable 4-hour boat ride to Key West and proved to be an amazing way to get to the Keys rather than driving down.

Once we arrived, we spent several days soaking up the sun and seeing the sights! We visited Ernest Hemingway’s house and adored the six-toed cats. We also visited the Southernmost Point, Sloppy Joe’s, Hog’s Breath, and Mallory Square, witnessing the most breathtaking sunsets I’ve ever seen in my life. What made our trip to Key West so memorable was the last day of our trip when we were visiting Smathers Beach.

At my boyfriend’s prompting, we climbed the rocks that jutted out into the turquoise waters and walked as far as we could, gazing at the beautiful skies and ocean. Before I knew what was happening, he was down on one knee and asked me to become his wife, producing a gorgeous diamond ring from his pocket that I had no idea had been there! I was blown away and was even more surprised when his cousin from Fort Myers popped out from behind the palm trees on the beach taking pictures of the beautiful proposal. He and I celebrated with a sunset dinner at the Sunset Pier. It was the trip I will never forget!

They used to have a Sloppy Joe’s in Tallahassee too! My band used to play there.
