My vacation to Sayulita, Nayarit
March 3rd, 2008 by Lindsey from MSP
One of my favorite trips of all time was a week-long vacation to the Riviera Nayarit, Mexico with my best friend. One of the highlights of our trip was a day excursion to a small surfing village north of Puerto Vallarta called Sayulita. We caught a city bus near our hotel, which took us to the town of Bucerias. There’s a little market there for shopping while you wait for another bus to Sayulita. The ride there was probably around 20 minutes, but totally worth it. The town is this sleepy little village with a few shops and restaurants (we had ribs, tacos, nachos and beer for 2 and it cost us $10 with tip).
Once you get to the beach, your mouth just drops. It’s a gorgeous, picturesque little bay where the waves are high enough to surf on, the beach is pristine, and there are no high-rise hotels. We spent the day boogie boarding, laying on the beach, and chatting it up with the local hippies and surfers. It’s not a beach where you can just swim because there are a lot of rocks and plant life that grow close to the shore. But you can buy a boogie board at a local shop or rent one for around $3-$5. Or if you’re a little more adventurous, you can try surfing…we were not that adventurous!
