20 years of work memories

Funny how life goes along and suddenly you wake up and realize that along with WorldVacations celebrating its 20th anniversary, I too am having my 20-year anniversary here at work. Looking back, I never thought I’d be here that long, but I’m still lovin’ it, and I’ve certainly got a lot of memories.

Some things have really changed. The entire WorldVacations gang at the very beginning was only 11 people. There were five of us in the marketing/advertising area and six people in reservations. Today, there are close to 250 people involved!
The nonstop entertainment town of Las Vegas has always been a big part of our business but today the sunny destinations of Cancún and the Riviera Maya are the biggest sellers. The islands of Hawaii and Jamaica are huge, too.
And back in 1988 when I started, my computer screen was all of 8×8 inches, there was no such thing as e-mail, and the Internet was still an idea swirling around in Al Gore’s head!

And as much as things have changed, some things have stayed very much the same. I’ve only had three different bosses in all 20 years — which is pretty amazing, considering the ebb and flow of businesses and workers these days. My first boss was quite the character, but he believed in me and liked my work, which helped me a ton. My second and current boss were also supportive, allowing me to do my best work and really grow — which is why I’m probably still here (besides loving to travel)!
The friendly, family atmosphere here at work has remained the same, as well. It’s always been a fun, casual place to work where people make lifelong friendships and several people have even met their spouses— including me, who married the nice boy down the hall nine years ago last November.

So, on May 16, I will celebrate my 20th anniversary here and, for achieving that milestone, I’ll receive free travel to Mexico or Costa Rica.
